BackStage Hardware SALE
I just got email today that Eric is having a sale at Backstage Hardware. "Just print out the page or mention "website promotion" when you come in and we will honor these great prices. The sale items will change each month."
I checked the list for this month, and it's mostly scenic painting supplies, but there are a few pieces of high-end lighting equip. on sale, too, if you're interested.
This weekend (during Arisia setup) they are open Thursday 7:30am - 4:30pm; Friday 7:30am - 3pm, and Sat. 9am - 1pm.NOTE: They will accept an order on the phone and send it immediately via currier for "a small charge," according to their website. Their number is 617.330.1422
In case you're curious: no, I have no financial ties with these guys, they're just an awesome hardware and theater supply company in South Boston. Not that anyone has any free time, but if, hypothetically, you did, and you're not from the area, I would highly recommend a field trip over there. (Tell 'em topper sent you, if you feel like chatting). From their website: Backstage stocks a full line of Rosco products, Artists' Choice paints and Sculpt or Coat, Tapes (gaff, spike, etc.), Fabrics, Stage Hardware, Trickline, Scatter Snow, Wardrobe Racks, Crowd Control Ropes, Hampers and just regular hardware stuff. We service universities, high schools, television studios, film companies, special event and display companies, photographers, the fishing industry and many local businesses. Located on Boston's busy waterfront, our store is decorated with murals and artwork painted by some of Boston's leading scenic designers. Stop by and visit!

Boston area picnic
Cookout partything at my place june 3rd.
If you are in the area, I'm having a cookout thing at my place june 3rd.
Starting around 11amish, going until folks decide to leave or I get sleepy.
I was originally going to have this at a park, but the reservations for the picnic areas at Blue Hills Reservation for saturdays were used up months ago, and the other parks around that I know about had other problems.
I'll have the grill, so bring grillables to share. Email me at dale at cybercom dotty net for directions. Bringing non-alcoholic beverages and your own fun selves is encouraged.

Looking for Balticon Room Space
and I are coming to Balticon. We're looking for someone with room space they'd be willing to share with us. We really would like to sleep in a bed. Anyone got space for us? We'll be coming on friday and flying back on Monday. (Need sleep space Friday, Saturday, Sunday.)
We could also use directions for how to get to the hotel from the airport via light rail. Does the light rail shut down late at night? We'll be arriving around 11pm probably.
Look forward to seeing anyone else who's going to be there.

The Rubber Duckies Return to Arisia!
Some of you may remeber that 2 years ago, I ran a non-event; the open scavenger hunt for rubber duckies at Arisia. I personally purchased 100 duckies and decorating supplies. There were many wonderful folk who helped me decorate and hide the duckies. Last year, I was unable to attend Arisia, so there were no duckies. I was informed that there were quite a few disappointed children and adults that were wondering where the duckies went.
Well, this year, I am pleased to announce the Return of the Arisia Ducky Hunt
This year, I'd like to offer a limited number of special prizes for those who check in the duckies with the winning secret number. The prizes will be fantasy & historically themed action figures and tin wind up toys. The cost for said toys is $5.00 per toy. So, this time, I'd like to see if I can collect some donations to help offset the cost for this fun and entertaining event.
If you are interested in helping in the execution if the ducky scavenger hunt or would be willing to donate a small ammount to the cost of this event, please contact me.

Xposted to my lj, c0mp_g33ks, obselitism, techno_fandom, and more places as I find them 8)
This is a letter I just wrote to a potentially bad email address for tech support at Vivendi Universal Studios (though it hasn't bounced yet).
I sent it there in lieu of finding an entry for Customer Service (their email contact form redirects you to a forum which has the email address in a comment).
A while ago, I had a chat with centaurk
about King's Quest and the old Sierra On-Line games. Tonight, I decided that I should try to track down those games. Unfortunately, Sierra is a member of the IDSA.
Granted, I'm one to get a bit misty-eyed over an old computing find (like when I found a 1st edition K&R or a friend offered me a TRS-80 that a client of his had laying around), but games like King's Quest, Space Quest, Conquests of the Longbow, and Quest for Glory (or Hero's Quest as the first was known) were probably the most important part of my childhood. ( So I told them about it and asked if they know where I can get themCollapse )

made us a LiveJournal community. Is this a good thing, or are we better off with just the mailing list? Discussion?
